Get started with Google Sheets add-on Cryptofinance

Overview

Cryptofinance is a Google Sheets add-on that provides the CRYPTOFINANCE() function. It connects to Cryptowatch and other third-party venues to return cryptocurrencies prices, volume, marketcap and much more.
You can use Cryptofinance to keep track of your portfolio, to analyse markets and exchanges performance, or build just anything that requires cryptocurrencies data — Think of it as LEGO for crypto data.

How to install Cryptofinance

Important: Before starting, uninstall the Apps Script version of Cryptofinance to avoid duplication. Please visit the detailed migration guide.

Creating a Cryptowatch Account

Creating a Cryptowatch account lets you generate Cryptowatch API keys, which are required to access paid Cryptofinance data plans in Google Sheets.
Adding an API key from Cryptowatch also enables the 14-day free trial.
If you already have a Cryptowatch account, click the link below to skip this step:
Click the profile icon in the top-right of any Cryptowatch page to create a new Cryptowatch account:
The profile icon is in the top-right of every page on Cryptowatch. Click it to create an account.
A “Create Account” window will open over the Cryptowatch page. Enter your email, choose a username and password to create a new account. You can opt-in for product emails at this stage as well, if you want to stay informed of Cryptowatch releases and updates.
Cryptowatch password requirements:
  • At least 8 characters
  • At least one letter
  • At least one number
  • At least one special character
Once you’ve entered your account info, click Get Started to create the account.

How to generate API keys in Cryptowatch

When you are signed in to Cryptowatch, click the profile icon in the top-right of the page again. Click API Access from the drop-down menu.
Navigate to the API Access page by opening the profile menu in Cryptowatch.
Go to the Generate a key section and give your API key a relevant name to help you identify it in the future. You can also check the Read only box — Cryptofinance doesn’t need to send any information to Cryptowatch in order to work.
Enter a unique name and click “Read only” in the Generate a key section.
Next, click the Generate key button to create your new API key. If you have existing API keys, the one you’ve just created will appear at the bottom of the list.
Clicking Generate key will create a Public and a Private key in a new box under the Key name you entered above.
Private key is only needed for CWPORT formula to fetch your CW holdings, orders or trades.

How to connect API keys in Cryptofinance

Open the Google Sheet where you’ve installed Cryptofinance. If you’ve followed the instructions above, you will see Cryptofinance under Extensions. Open the Google Sheet where you’ve installed Cryptofinance. If you’ve followed the instructions above, you will see Cryptofinance under Extensions.
Click the Cryptofinance button and select the second option:
"Enter Cryptowatch Public API Key"
This will open a window over your spreadsheet. Copy and Paste the Public key you generated in Cryptowatch into the field:
Click OK and Cryptofinance will automatically connect to your Cryptowatch using the API key.
